You talk to the engineer.
Proctor Digital is a one-person software consultancy in Liverpool. One engineer scopes the work, builds the work and replies to you directly: legacy migrations, bespoke systems and websites without the waffle.
Why legacy rescue
A system that has run a business for decades was built by someone who knew what they were doing. That is the starting position here, and it is rarer than it should be. Most of the industry treats old software as an embarrassment; we treat it as a specification that has already survived contact with reality.
The enemy is not the old system. It is the clock: the retired developer, the unsupported runtime, the one machine in the corner that must never be turned off. Our job is to beat the clock without breaking what works, which is why every migration here runs the same way: the old system stays live while the new one runs alongside it, reconciled record by record, until the business decides the evidence is good enough to switch.
The platforms we rescue, DataFlex, Visual FoxPro, VB6, Classic ASP, Access and the rest, are listed under Legacy Rescue, each with its honest end-of-life facts and exit options. The working notes from this kind of work live in Field Notes.
Four habits, kept deliberately
Plain English
You get straight answers about your own system. Jargon is a way of hiding; I would rather you understood the plan.
Fixed prices
A number before the work starts, in writing. No open-ended day rates, no meter running.
Parallel running
The old system stays live until the new one has proven itself. Downtime is a choice, and we choose no.
One engineer, end to end
The person who scopes the job builds the job. Nothing is lost in handover because there is no handover.
Details that survive a phone call
Everything on this site can be checked: the prices are real, the platform facts carry their sources, and there is exactly one of us.
